Hair.

With longer longs popping out my head left, right & centre it is only fitting that I explore the vast array of hair products up for grabs. After 3 years of pixie cuts and limited products that are useful to a few steps off a buzz cut I have rediscovered the delight in finding a hair product that serves it's very need. Recently I have found products that are working for me and giving me the full, sleek hair I am after. Four products minus shampoo and conditioner might seem excessive to some but each to their own, I guess.

This One Is For When The Heat Is On - Blow Dry Spray
VO5 Smoothly Does It - Heat Protect Serum
Schwarzkopf Got 2 B. - Rise 'n Shine Volume + Shine Whipped Mousse
Schwarzkopf Got 2 B. - Rise 'n Shine Volume + Shine Hairspray

Applied in the order they appear, these little treasures protect my hair while smoothing fly aways and giving the roots of my hair volume and a bit of texture.

Heat protection is important especially as I want my hair to grow. I think of heat protection like an oven glove, you wouldn't get your pepporoni pizza out the oven without an oven glove would you? So why put high temperatures on your hair without giving a little protection? This One was bought purely because it was on offer and the cheapest. It's good but I've used better but for now it is doing the job. VO5 are good for a hair oil. Affordable and quality products. This is another heat protection product however it provides a smoothing, shine enhancing factor that I love. Pea size drop of this through the ends followed by a little time spent drying your hair properly and you will have lovely sleek hair (with volume in the roots from the mousse, naturally.) I love the VO5 miracle oil but for whatever reasons decided to gander in the oil world a little, I'll be back with the ol' faithful soon. I always do.

Big hair was a love of mine prior to the chop, who wants super sleek straight hair - not me! It just doesn't work for me. Poker straight hair is just not my cup of tea. The Whipped mousse is one of my favourite products. Before I tried this mousse I had found ones that were good but never really amazing. Aussie has a good offering but they just seem to be getting more and more pricey as a brand and I like a bargain. The mousse and hair spray were 2 for £5 in Superdrug so naturally I needed both... Amazing products that definitely do what they say on the tin.

H A I R : N E W - DO

With just under a year of hair growth, I finally was able to go to the hair dressers this weekend and get an actual style cut in! No more awkward hair in between stage of part mullet, part I don't know what the fuck. I now actually have some shape and some style. Winning.

I went to Cheynes Hairdressers in Brunstfield for the first time after finding out my previous hairdresser had up sticks for the Southern Hemisphere and the land of Oz! Going to a new hairdressers can be daunting especially as with my old hairdressers I had established an understanding that I'm pretty casual about chopping off my hair - see pixie cut of years gone by - or slabbing on some colour - see platinum pixie, red pixie, black... - he understood that I was open to ideas. My new hair dressers at Cheynes seems to be of the 'lets just cut it and it'll be cool' mind set as well. Excellent, I thought to myself.

The end result was a Lily Allen-esque bob with a full fringe. I love it! It's a wee bit interesting, not everyone has it and I finally have some length (not a great deal but it is there) to my hair. I see this being the haircut of choice for the foreseeable future. Strange thing is, I send Mama erratic glamour a photo of my new locks and she sent one back saying 'you look like that singer, lily something!' Weirrrrd... Mama eg knows where it's at clearly!

In terms of colour, I am thinking a rich red. I bought a Mahogany wash out colour to gauge it for now but I think a rich red would look really nice with the cut instead of my mousy brown tressles. Plus it means buying lots of lovely haircare products, Boots is 3for2 after all... The comb is just because I am going to try and keep my hair in tip top condition so wet hair shant be seeing a brush and it was 55p... Talk about throw back packaging. Garnier Ulitmate Blends Shampoo and conditioner with argan oil & cranberry in 90s package. Hellllo.

Hair: 43 Week Pixie Update.

It has been nearly 11 months since I started growing out my pixie cut. As expected it has come a long way! I still have a bit to go but I have length now with some shorter layers here and there. My hair dresser and I have a plan - one which we both agree on which is essential - so a bob can't be long off now.

Although what I want is a long, curly bob in the end for now I want to play about with the cut. I am considering the Alexa Chung bob with a middle part but before I do this I am thinking about possibly getting a fringe cut in. At the moment, the style generally tends to be as much volume as possibly to fake a sort of beehive style. I need to get the back of my hair trimmed as it is a touch longer than the rest right now and is looking a tad mullet-esque.

As far as hair care goes, not a lot has changed. I switched out some products in order to get my hair a little sleeker instead of the volume that I was aiming for before. Vitamin wise, B complex has been a massive one but I can be a bit lazy when it comes to taking these! I think regardless, my hair will grow with or without a vitamin supplement. I'm hoping for at least a bit of a messy, curly bob by summer. I don't see why it wouldn't happen.

I don't update on my pixie cut growing out all that often but at nearly 11 months I'm not sure there is a lot left to show. The awkward stages are almost completely passed so I guess when I get my haircut next I will have a wee check in!

I apologise for the quality of the pictures, I don't have a laptop at the moment so am having to use my iphone!

Hair: 37 Week Pixie Update

37 weeks, that is 9 months & 1 week of hair growth.

Following my last update at 29 weeks, my hair has grown quite a lot. I have enough length to pin back the back(!) or put my hair in a tiny pony tail. This way the length doesn't annoy me and I can fake longer hair. I just got my hair tidied up and the weight taken out today as it was starting to look really shapeless and heavy.Personally, leaving my hair to grow as long as possible before getting it cut is the best option I find. I don't have vaults full of money where I can splash out on a haircut every 6 weeks. Sadly.

Last week I put a golden brown dye through my hair purely to cover the greys and for a little change without going for the chop. I quite like the colour against my natural skintone. So that is my 37 week update hopefully soon I will have myself a little bob that will allow me to style in some messy curls.

26 Week Pixie Update.

So this 26 week pixie growing mark has come & gone. This Monday saw my hair reach 26 weeks of growth, 6 month! Looking back over my hair the last few months, I cannot believe how short my hair was but it has definitely got some length to it. I had a little 'I hate my hair why isn't it long' moment at the weekend but I just have to keep telling myself eventually it will how I long for it to be... *sigh*

The length still isn't at the right place to be worn out from out from my ears but not long hopefully. A little faked up do might come soon too... I think I need to go for a mullet trim & a little bit of the weight taken off from the top. I'm so excited for my messy, curly bob! I have noticed a big difference in my hair since I started taking Vitamin B Complex and Vitamin E again. Whether they are helping or it is in my head who knows...

I am going to get a little tidy up on Wednesday at the hair dressers, my mullet is getting a little unruly & some weight needs taken off the top then I think I will be content with continuing with the growing.

Happy Monday!
