Hair.

With longer longs popping out my head left, right & centre it is only fitting that I explore the vast array of hair products up for grabs. After 3 years of pixie cuts and limited products that are useful to a few steps off a buzz cut I have rediscovered the delight in finding a hair product that serves it's very need. Recently I have found products that are working for me and giving me the full, sleek hair I am after. Four products minus shampoo and conditioner might seem excessive to some but each to their own, I guess.

This One Is For When The Heat Is On - Blow Dry Spray
VO5 Smoothly Does It - Heat Protect Serum
Schwarzkopf Got 2 B. - Rise 'n Shine Volume + Shine Whipped Mousse
Schwarzkopf Got 2 B. - Rise 'n Shine Volume + Shine Hairspray

Applied in the order they appear, these little treasures protect my hair while smoothing fly aways and giving the roots of my hair volume and a bit of texture.

Heat protection is important especially as I want my hair to grow. I think of heat protection like an oven glove, you wouldn't get your pepporoni pizza out the oven without an oven glove would you? So why put high temperatures on your hair without giving a little protection? This One was bought purely because it was on offer and the cheapest. It's good but I've used better but for now it is doing the job. VO5 are good for a hair oil. Affordable and quality products. This is another heat protection product however it provides a smoothing, shine enhancing factor that I love. Pea size drop of this through the ends followed by a little time spent drying your hair properly and you will have lovely sleek hair (with volume in the roots from the mousse, naturally.) I love the VO5 miracle oil but for whatever reasons decided to gander in the oil world a little, I'll be back with the ol' faithful soon. I always do.

Big hair was a love of mine prior to the chop, who wants super sleek straight hair - not me! It just doesn't work for me. Poker straight hair is just not my cup of tea. The Whipped mousse is one of my favourite products. Before I tried this mousse I had found ones that were good but never really amazing. Aussie has a good offering but they just seem to be getting more and more pricey as a brand and I like a bargain. The mousse and hair spray were 2 for £5 in Superdrug so naturally I needed both... Amazing products that definitely do what they say on the tin.

H A I R : N E W - DO

With just under a year of hair growth, I finally was able to go to the hair dressers this weekend and get an actual style cut in! No more awkward hair in between stage of part mullet, part I don't know what the fuck. I now actually have some shape and some style. Winning.

I went to Cheynes Hairdressers in Brunstfield for the first time after finding out my previous hairdresser had up sticks for the Southern Hemisphere and the land of Oz! Going to a new hairdressers can be daunting especially as with my old hairdressers I had established an understanding that I'm pretty casual about chopping off my hair - see pixie cut of years gone by - or slabbing on some colour - see platinum pixie, red pixie, black... - he understood that I was open to ideas. My new hair dressers at Cheynes seems to be of the 'lets just cut it and it'll be cool' mind set as well. Excellent, I thought to myself.

The end result was a Lily Allen-esque bob with a full fringe. I love it! It's a wee bit interesting, not everyone has it and I finally have some length (not a great deal but it is there) to my hair. I see this being the haircut of choice for the foreseeable future. Strange thing is, I send Mama erratic glamour a photo of my new locks and she sent one back saying 'you look like that singer, lily something!' Weirrrrd... Mama eg knows where it's at clearly!

In terms of colour, I am thinking a rich red. I bought a Mahogany wash out colour to gauge it for now but I think a rich red would look really nice with the cut instead of my mousy brown tressles. Plus it means buying lots of lovely haircare products, Boots is 3for2 after all... The comb is just because I am going to try and keep my hair in tip top condition so wet hair shant be seeing a brush and it was 55p... Talk about throw back packaging. Garnier Ulitmate Blends Shampoo and conditioner with argan oil & cranberry in 90s package. Hellllo.

Hair: 43 Week Pixie Update.

It has been nearly 11 months since I started growing out my pixie cut. As expected it has come a long way! I still have a bit to go but I have length now with some shorter layers here and there. My hair dresser and I have a plan - one which we both agree on which is essential - so a bob can't be long off now.

Although what I want is a long, curly bob in the end for now I want to play about with the cut. I am considering the Alexa Chung bob with a middle part but before I do this I am thinking about possibly getting a fringe cut in. At the moment, the style generally tends to be as much volume as possibly to fake a sort of beehive style. I need to get the back of my hair trimmed as it is a touch longer than the rest right now and is looking a tad mullet-esque.

As far as hair care goes, not a lot has changed. I switched out some products in order to get my hair a little sleeker instead of the volume that I was aiming for before. Vitamin wise, B complex has been a massive one but I can be a bit lazy when it comes to taking these! I think regardless, my hair will grow with or without a vitamin supplement. I'm hoping for at least a bit of a messy, curly bob by summer. I don't see why it wouldn't happen.

I don't update on my pixie cut growing out all that often but at nearly 11 months I'm not sure there is a lot left to show. The awkward stages are almost completely passed so I guess when I get my haircut next I will have a wee check in!

I apologise for the quality of the pictures, I don't have a laptop at the moment so am having to use my iphone!

Hair: 37 Week Pixie Update

37 weeks, that is 9 months & 1 week of hair growth.

Following my last update at 29 weeks, my hair has grown quite a lot. I have enough length to pin back the back(!) or put my hair in a tiny pony tail. This way the length doesn't annoy me and I can fake longer hair. I just got my hair tidied up and the weight taken out today as it was starting to look really shapeless and heavy.Personally, leaving my hair to grow as long as possible before getting it cut is the best option I find. I don't have vaults full of money where I can splash out on a haircut every 6 weeks. Sadly.

Last week I put a golden brown dye through my hair purely to cover the greys and for a little change without going for the chop. I quite like the colour against my natural skintone. So that is my 37 week update hopefully soon I will have myself a little bob that will allow me to style in some messy curls.

29 Week Pixie Update

Seven months into the pixie growth process...

My hair & I have come a long way but everyday I wake up with the hope that this will be the day that I can wear my hair out from behind my ears alas that day has not arrived yet...

The length is getting there slowly but surely, I just need the top layer & my fringe to drop a little & I will be smiling. Since day 1, I have come along way just need to persevere & remember that eventually I can take my hair out from behind my ears even possibly chuck it up in a bobble - imagine!

As far as haircare goes, deep conditioners & heat defence have been my best friends these past few weeks particularly as my hair is at the stage where without straightners it would look ever so similar to a bowl on my head...

Happy Wednesday!

26 Week Pixie Update.

So this 26 week pixie growing mark has come & gone. This Monday saw my hair reach 26 weeks of growth, 6 month! Looking back over my hair the last few months, I cannot believe how short my hair was but it has definitely got some length to it. I had a little 'I hate my hair why isn't it long' moment at the weekend but I just have to keep telling myself eventually it will how I long for it to be... *sigh*

The length still isn't at the right place to be worn out from out from my ears but not long hopefully. A little faked up do might come soon too... I think I need to go for a mullet trim & a little bit of the weight taken off from the top. I'm so excited for my messy, curly bob! I have noticed a big difference in my hair since I started taking Vitamin B Complex and Vitamin E again. Whether they are helping or it is in my head who knows...

I am going to get a little tidy up on Wednesday at the hair dressers, my mullet is getting a little unruly & some weight needs taken off the top then I think I will be content with continuing with the growing.

Happy Monday!

Growing out a pixie: Tips

On the 18th of March this year I decided that the time had come for me to bite the bullet & begin the long, laborious task that is growing out a pixie cut. If you have followed me for a while you will have been that my hair was super, super short for ages. To be honest, I didn't even realise how short it was until I looked back on it! I knew it would take a while to grow but now 5 months on my hair now has a little bit of length, I have a fringe & some length round my ears but it has been annoying getting to this stage - to say the least.

 18 of March 2013

Through the past 5 months I have hunted online for tips & tricks to assist me along my hair growth process but didn't find a huge amount of useful information so I figured a little list of tips to growing out a pixie might be helpful to those of you considering a pixie or growing out a pixie cut.

Tips for Growing out a Pixie Cut

1. Perseverance.
It is a long process & at stages you will think why am I doing this?! Keep going! The last thing you want to do is chop any growth you have achieved off because you don't like how it looks one day or it is annoying you. There will be days you absoultely hate your hair but just think of the end result.

I have attempted to grow out my hair a few times & always given up, headed to the hairdressers ending up back with my super short hair. You will only think 'Why didn't I keep going 3 months ago?! My hair would be so much longer now!'

2. Keep it Tidy.
You are growing your hair so why would you cut it, you ask. There will come a point when your hair will need a tidy up & given a bit of shape. For me this was around the 14 week mark. Partly due to my graduation being that week & I didn't want shapeless hair for my photos and partly due to my hair needing weight taken out of it & a little tidy up. Now in week 23, I am considering going for another little tidy up just to lose some weight & to get my 'mullet' tidied up.

3. Conditioning is Key.
Condition your hair as much as possible be it with a regular conditioner, a leave in conditioner or a conditioning mask. Slap it on! If your hair is in good condition then it is more likely to grow & will mean less trims of dead hair from the ends! An add benefit is of course that if it is in good condition then it won't be as annoying when it is in an awkward growing stage!

I haven't used any Hair Growth products such as the Lee Stafford or Mane & Tail simply because I don't believe that they will make my hair grow! I figure they will get my hair into a good condition but so will using regular conditioners & looking after my health.

4. Experiment.
Dying your hair a different colour might be something you choose to do while growing out your pixie but be careful with this one. Too many chemicals could result in the condition of your hair lagging... Wash out dye are an option if you fancy a little change.

I hadn't seen my natural hair colour for years so for me this process allowed me to let that come back & to be honest I love my natural colour! Why I dyed over it for so many years is beyond me!

5. Hairdresser Plan.
With my Hair Stylist we have a little plan in our minds. We know my end hair goal, she knows where I started & each stage that I will have to go through to get to the fore mentioned end goal. This way when I go for a tidy up, she won't get scissor happy & leave me with a new pixie cut...

6. Vitamins & Diet.
Eating well will not only benefit your hair but  of your skin & general health - nothing bad about that, now is there?! Keeping yourself full of nutrients that benefit the body won't do you any harm nor will it halt the process of hair growth. You want healthy, strong hair so make the rest of your body the same!

I have been taking a Vitamin B supplement over the past few months simply because it has hair benefits along with a Vitamin E supplement. E is good for your skin & I have really noticed a difference in my skin & the softness of my hair.

Do a little research into what you want from your Vitamin supplements.

7. Be Patient.
Patience is key. It will not happen over night, you will need to focus on the end goal & just give your hair sometime to work its magic! You will get there eventually.

Happy Hair Growing! x

21 Week Hair Update.

21 weeks into growing out a very short pixie crop and I am finally starting to see some length. The overall shape of my hair isn't horrific but it isn't exactly a sought for look, to say the least. I have got myself a little bit of a fridge and have some length around my ears but not enough for wearing out from behind my ears just yet.

Week 1 (18-03-13) and Week 21 (06-08-13)

I really just want it to have some length to pull down the weight now as it is getting annoying but hopefully I will start to see more length coming in soon...

17 Week Hair Update

I have been growing out my pixie crop for the last 17 weeks & I will admit it has been a tough process. I am entering the awkward length where my initial thoughts almost everyday are 'what am I meant to do with this?!' This said I decided that the 17 week mark along with my university graduation on Friday a hair tidy up was necessary.

There was too much weight on the top resulting in a mushroom-esque shape on my head & my mullet was slowly getting too long... time for a trim! So I toddled off down to my favourite hairdressers for a tidy up.

Compared with how my hair looked 17 weeks ago, my hair has grown a lot but there is still a long way to go...

14 Week Hair Update.

Growing out the pixie cut

If you follow the blog you will know that I am currently in the process of growing out my super short pixie cut. (See the last two stages here) The simple reason being, I miss having hair to play about with! It has been 14 weeks since my last hair cut and my has grown - obviously! - quite a bit. It is getting there but it is a tricky little road to go down.

There are many obstacles on said road. Mullet being one. A fringe that is too short for the length of the rest of my hair. That's two. And finally having thick hair that builds up on the top of my head like a poorly chosen hat. All of these things I would like to keep to a minimum but I know that there will come a day when at least one will be bothering me. If it is all three then I am grabbing the clippers.

Apparently the first three months are the hardest so let us hope that soon it get's less bumpy... I will have a curly messy bob one day!

I haven't been blogging as much as I would have liked to recently mostly due to a really random, heavy cold consisting of a chesty cough, blocked nose and sore head. Who gets a cold in June?!

4 June 2013

Yet again hair lusting.

Ah Nicole Richie and your perfect hair. Is there no style this fashionable lady can't pull off?! This perfect fringed long bob  plays to all my senses. It is just too perfect for words!

Roaring 20s

It seems like the 20s has had a bit of a revival recently with the release of The Great Gatsby this month and an array of curly bobs creeping up on the heads of more and more female fashionistas and celebrities this is something that excites me beyond belief. I love the 20s. The fashion, the make up, the bobs...

As you may or may not know I am growing out my super short pixie crop and the main aim is a messy curly bob. A small attempt to channel my inner 20s flapper girl! I love the look of a messy curl bob. Enough to hair to play around with but still not masses of long, long hair.

Has anyone seen The Great Gatsby yet? I think I might be seeing it tonight hopefully. I am so excited to see it especially seen as it is one of my favourite books and it features the 20s! Perfect movie for me really!

Red hair.

I at some point this week decided that I wanted red hair. So I impulsively bought a L'loreal Feria dye and some John Freida red shampoo and conditioner and now have red hair!! I am still getting use to it and am not 100% sure I like it but we will see.

I just feel like none of my make up goes - in particular lipstick. What colour of bright lipstick would you wear? Help! Also I think a need to fake tan a little. I was planning on stripping it out but it will fade quickly, red always does...

Happy Thursday!

Trying out

Photobucket

I went into Superdrug to get eyelashes on Wednesday afternoon, I came out with £28 worth of goodies including these Tresemme products. I'm not usually a fan of Tresemme products, I don't really know why, it just tends to be a brand that I ignore! These products were on 3 for £6.99 - at £5.99 and £5.49 each  it was an offer I couldn't resist really.

With layers of bleach under my botched home dye job, my hair needs some TLC before drying & hair oils tend to do the job perfectly. I am a big fan of the VO5 hair miracle concentrate but they didn't have that in stock so the Tresemme Argan Oil treatment it was! I've only used it once or twice but so far it has left my hair feeling soft & silky while adding some shine.

The 24 hour body powder is good, does what it says on the tin - or little plastic bottle - but it is quite a sticky product. It also feels like you've bought an empty bottle but that's nothing to do with anything really!

I would probably consider repurchasing these products at some point but as of Tuesday when I get my long, flowing locks (This is total sarcasm fyi) chopped off I doubt I will need them - I will probably still use the oil treatment but I fear the Body powder will sink to the deepest darkest corner of my products drawer till my hair returns to its current state.

Ever tried these products? What did you think of them?

Happy Saturday!

She's just a girl

A lot of black- again - but you've come to expect it now, I'm sure. I am trying to wear less black & also things that are more fitted as baggy stuff just doesn't really suit my shape but sometimes a big baggy tshirt & cardigan are what feels good... I did add a splash of colour with my scarf & red nail polish anything to distract from my newly dyed black hair! If you follow me on Twitter, you will know this was an accident but I actually quite like it now with a tan & some make up ... que my chummy calling me Kris Jenner! I like it for now, I always get so bored with my hair colour, I suppose it is part of having a short cut you can play about with colour a little more!

One more thing before I go & get back to my dissertation proposal which I will be using all of you lovely people for (if you are willing to help! *hopeful face*) as it is on Social Media in particular fashion blogging!

PS I love my Fur Gilet! <3

Faux Fur Gilet - Topshop
Leather Jacket - Oasis
Dropped Arm Hole Vest - New Look
Necklace & Cardigan - Topshop
Scarf - Oasis
Velvet Trousers (Think they are the 'Molly') - River Island
Boots - Topshop (Seen here)
Bag - Zara
Watch - River Island

Short hair.

I have been writing a lot of university essay & the like as of late so I feel like my creative juices are in full flow which I is probably why I got up this morning & decided to write on short hair of all things. As some of you may or may not know I have had short hair for about 3 years & I highly doubt I will ever return to the land of long, tousled locks - it just isn't me. I feel like myself with short hair & it has allowed me to dabble in colour & cuts - it isn't as limited as you may think.

On Monday I decided to get my longer pixie cut bleached blonde barnet chopped super short & into a medium brown - I love it. I look tanned! I will know doubt get bored & go back to blonde but for now I am happy as a brunette.  I love thi article that I saw another blogger mention:

Style Crush #11

She may not be everyone's cup of tea in Made in Chelsea but personalities & opinions on such aside, the girl has style!

Rosie Fortescue mixes designer & high street to perfection. Along side a mixture of  textures, patterns & colours. Everything is pretty simple but styled to perfection & kept interesting through accessories including hats, handbags, jewellery & sunglasses.

My favourites have to be oufit 3, outfit 4 & outfit 5 ... or all of them! What is your favourite?

Style Crush #10

I think, don't quote me, that Ashley is in these pictures. I think, I find it extremely hard to tell them apart! Nonetheless the Olsen twins have the perfect mix of high fashion, boho & grunge to their style. Ashley, I feel, is the more put together twin with Mary Kate having a touch more 'grunge'. Whatever the opinion,  both styles I can't fault. They grew up in the spotlight & have 100% grown into their own styles in recent year. They own numerous successful fashion brands - they have to be stylish!

30 July 2012

I hope someday we'll meet again.

Wearing: New Look top, River Island shorts, H&M belt, Tesco bag, Rings Ebay & Accessorize, Bracelets A mix, Sunglasses Ebay

I was all set to go chill in the park today in the sunshine then as soon as I stepped outside it rained! Typical. Instead of chilling in the sunshine I changed my room about, I love doing this. I do it so much! My style is changing a little bit recently, it is getting a little more relaxed & I am kind of loving it. I am also loving my new little above the knuckle rings from Ebay, they add a nice little touch of interest.

I am on a major major spending ban as I realised today I am skinter than a skint thing! Not good. I get paid a week on Friday so I am pretty much spending the week going to the gym, reading & on the interweb - basically no nights out or shopping. Boo hoo!

28 July 2012

It's not the end of the world.

What I am wearing: Crop top - Cut up Ressi freebie, Kristen Topshop Jeans, New Look wedges, Tesco bag, Thumb ring Boutique, Bracelets Random mix

I was planning on heading down to Princes Street today to get some leggings for the new as I noticed that my current ones are ever so slightly see thru pretty much all over - so happy that this fact was brought to my attention while I was at the gym - but if i am honest I really cannot be bothered so I think a day of chilling in my rocking chair in the sunny patch at my window reading 'The Other Boleyn Girl' by Pilippa Gregory is a much better plan. Might as well be dressed up for such occasion!   I find when I read often I can write a lot more, I love reading but sometimes fall into not reading stages currently I can't get enough of reading. I am trying to get through as many books in my pile of to-reads as possible before 4th year university starts...

This mint green top was a freebie in a magazine Elle possibly but it was just too small for me so I chopped it up into a crop top. The rough edge is what I like most about it. It comes in pretty handy now considering without some chopping it would have met the bin! Anyway have a lovely Saturday whatever you may be doing!
