Everyday Face: Made Up #3: Back to black

Natural make up was the look of choice the past few weeks for a number of reason but being a black eyeliner fan - a very big one at that - of course there would come a day when I missed the smudgy, messy look that I ran to everyday for the past few years.

This look is my no means as heavy as my previous black eyeliner look, it is still black & probably a little much for daytime but I love it too much!  One thing I am taking from my venture into more natural make up is keeping my base simple. I will no doubt still sway to a natural look every now and again but today black eyeliner was a must.

I love how dark eyes look with pale skin. There isn't one particular reason that I can put my thumb on. I just love it especially with a little bronzer as a contour & a touch of highlighter. Perfect look.

Autumn Picks: Beauty.

We all want to be warm & stylish during the colder months but a girl has to have a good supply of beauty supplies too! The winter months bring paler skin, dry skin & rosy cheeks so a little TLC doesn't go a miss when you aren't feel bright eyed and bushy tailed.

In order to make myself feel a little more preened I have a selection of product I like to reach for when Jack Frost bites. The only area I have left out is hair simply due to my pixie growth process which has covered pretty much all my haircare needs!

Nails through out Autumn and winter tend to centre around plums and reds with Nails Inc being a favourite brand. Saville Row is a rich, plum shade that is a little softer than a true black but still has the deep, gothic shade that works perfectly in the colder months. Picadilly Circus is a deep cerise shade that is interesting without being a very bright, garish pink. Think a pink for a lady! I love this shade, it is so beautiful and is an interesting colour. Finally Victoria & Albert is a beautiful true red. I am a massive red nails fan & this polish does not disappoint.

Skin & body care. I have dry skin. There is no way around it. This said, I need to moisturse daily sometimes twice... For this I have become a huge fan of Dove Purely Pampering body cream with Shea Butter and warm vanilla. I love this cream. It isn't too heavy or sticky that I can't get dressed after I put it on & the smell is light but still has a little kick. For my face, Nivea soft is a staple. This cream never lets me down.

For scent, I have gone for an old favourite of Chloe. I prefer the eau de perfume but sadly I can't part with the money currently so settled for the toilette. The smell is quite musky but smells amazing when it has settled into your skin & lingers.

A few make up picks now. For eyes, I am all about a bit of smokeyness which the MUA Undressed palette is perfect for. Plus it is an absolute steal! The colours are a mix of matte and shimmers ranging from light brown to charcoal shade making it so simple to create an interesting eye look. For lips, the Nivea lip butter in caramel cream has been a staple since the summer & I am sure will see me through the colder months. I have decided to go fake tan free this Autumn/Winter, partly due to my skin being not so great & partly due to my love of pale skin with dark eyes! For this I have stuck with my one true love, Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shade 51, light vanilla.

Casual

Super casual look for an afternoon in the library... story of my life!

I love my (knock off) Disco pants, they are so comfy & go with so much. I've worn them on nights out with fancy stuff & during the day with big cardigans & plimsoles.  This Topshop cami was bought with an exchange, I went for purple as I am trying to wear less black... good work moving away from all black. Dark Purple.

Coat, Cardigan & Cami: Topshop
Bag: Zara
Disco Pants: River Island
Tennis pumps: Fred Perry - very old, don't think they make these anymore

Style Crush #23

I took notice of this day when I saw Josie Loves Shoes post about her style & the love affair began! Donna Wallace is Elle UK's Accessories Editor which obviously means this lady is an eye for the pretty things in life. So here are a few of my favourite looks ...

Black Velvet

This New Years Eve was the first one in ages that I have actually done something for it so obviously I meticulously planned my outfit then changed it completely at the last minute. Standard.  I had planned on wearing these Topshop trousers - link - but changed to my disco pants at the last minute teamed with my Zara velvet blazer - link - Zara heels and a cream camisole from River Island. Added some mahoosive Topshop earrings & an orange clutch and off I went into 2013!

I am on the hunt for some tartan trousers, anyone seen any nice ones that aren't a fortune?

Prints & Studs

The shape of this Topshop dress (No link, I'm afraid as she is an oldie) without an added belt or the sash it came with is questionable. It resembles one of those tents you sick a pole in the middle of then pull out the sides, the wearer being, of course, the pole in the middle...

With a belt I can handle it if I am in the right mood. Shapeless baggy things tend to do very little for my body shape but we all have days where that is what screams out to us to wear.

I wore the dress with my Zara studded belt - a summer sale find, last summer I believe - which I think adds more to it than the matching sash although the belt is too big for my waist so it was low slung but I think it makes quite a pretty shape. I wore my Topshop western ankle boots - link & the usual fur gilet, leather jacket & silly sized handbag.

Other than my outfit other bits of news include...

  • I finished The Great Gatsby - amazing book. I loved it from start to finish, now all I need is May to roll around for the new film! I am now reading The House of Silk which is the new Sherlock Holmes book, I've only ready a chapter & a bit but am loving it already.
  • Over the last few days, I have been debating between the Topshop velvet shorts - link - and the Zara velvet shorts - link - HELP!! I just can't decide!
  • Home for Christmas today. I am so excited this year & I think I have my Christmas day outfit down unless Santa brings me something purdy

Just playing around

I mentioned these H&M trousers in an earlier post - link - I was debating whether to keep them or not as I wasn't sure about them but after an afternoon spent playing about with them I have come to the conclusion, I need them in my life. I have them on with my H&M fluffy jumper which has been a staple for me this autumn and winter but I think the trousers could look amazing dressed down with a simple tshirt, possibly my fur filet & some chunky boots.

£10 well spent I would say! H&M sale is so good at the moment, loads of good stuff to snap up.

Trousers & Books

I haven't done an outfit post in what feels like forever basically I haven't really been wearing anything interesting or that I don't normally wear ... fallen into a bit of a rut I guess but New Year out of rut & all that....

I just wanted to check in, say hello & share 2 probably not interesting pictures with you. First up, H&M sale get there it is amazing. I am considering going back again to pick up some grey jeans I saw & really wish I had bought but don't fear I did not leave empty handed. I left with these gorgeous black & white patterned trousers which were a bargain at £10!! I was umming & ahhing over whether to keep them or not but I figured i might as well sure I will find things to wear with them. The feature I like the best has to be the black strip down the side of the legs, it just adds a nice little touch to the trouser.

This is my Christmas holiday reading material, British Vogue & The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald which I am so very close to finishing & have loved every page. I am a big reader particularly of older books - for want a of a better way to say that -  I am not a fan of chick-lit modern books, I guess I like the escapism of going to another time. Everything was so much more glamorous. *Sigh*

Happy Wednesday!

Keep it under your hat

Photobucket Finally got a haircut,  I love when my hair is freshly cut. It just feels so damn good! Having short hair & living in Scotland, it is pretty cold for my head at this time of year so I went hat shopping after my hair appointment & came home with 3...

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

I think the black fur band & the floppy hat are my favourite, I look a bit like a poor mans fortune teller in the burgundy head band so I think I will keep the 1st two. What do you think?

We might get a chance to talk and talk might lead to dancing

I have a strange sense of achievement about this outfit as it isn't all black, it is mostly black but not all black is an achievement for me. I'm trying my hardest to break the all blackness that is my wardrobe. Even went crazy today & bought a blue tshirt!

River Island Disco pants are love. They are 100% the most comfortable trousers I own & go with almost anything & everything. I'm feeling better about myself today, just had one of those meh days but you were all so lovely in the comments so thank you! I think it is nice when girls show other girls support or a genuine comment or compliment as sometimes girls can be quite catty.

Cardigan, tshirt, bag & Boots - Topshop
Disco Pants - River Island
Necklace - H&M

She's just a girl

A lot of black- again - but you've come to expect it now, I'm sure. I am trying to wear less black & also things that are more fitted as baggy stuff just doesn't really suit my shape but sometimes a big baggy tshirt & cardigan are what feels good... I did add a splash of colour with my scarf & red nail polish anything to distract from my newly dyed black hair! If you follow me on Twitter, you will know this was an accident but I actually quite like it now with a tan & some make up ... que my chummy calling me Kris Jenner! I like it for now, I always get so bored with my hair colour, I suppose it is part of having a short cut you can play about with colour a little more!

One more thing before I go & get back to my dissertation proposal which I will be using all of you lovely people for (if you are willing to help! *hopeful face*) as it is on Social Media in particular fashion blogging!

PS I love my Fur Gilet! <3

Faux Fur Gilet - Topshop
Leather Jacket - Oasis
Dropped Arm Hole Vest - New Look
Necklace & Cardigan - Topshop
Scarf - Oasis
Velvet Trousers (Think they are the 'Molly') - River Island
Boots - Topshop (Seen here)
Bag - Zara
Watch - River Island

Sunday Diary #3

*picture from my friends 22nd Birthday night out

One of these Sunday diaries I will use a picture that isn't from the night before, one day! I've had such a good weekend, yesterday was so much fun spent with my favourite people - my brother, my friends... it was so perfect. This week I need to majorly get into my uni work... 4th year is killer!

I love my River Island Disco pant dupes ... they are so comfy & so flattering. £30 well spent for sure!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Birthday Bag

Say hello to my new handbag friend!

She is a little Topshop number that my flatmates got me for my birthday. I had lusted over her for so long & am so happy that she is finally mine! The suede is so luxurious & the detail on the back if perfection. The shorter gold chain handle is a nice touch but I doubt if I will ever be seen bashing along the street with it like that...

Topshop at the moment are getting it so right. I am forever on the website thinking of all the things I want to buy... this could end really badly.

30 October 2012

You'll probably always have a spell on me

Last week I went out for drinks with some chummies & this is what I wore... as I was in a rush & the last to get ready (how this happened I do not know as I am always the first ready?!) these pictures are re-takes! The only differences are my eye make up as heavier & darker on the night and I had on electric blue nail polish apart from that everything is the same!

Everything I am wearing are favourites of mine at the moment, apart from possibly the shoes as they have torn up my feet something awful so much so I had to limp to the camera and back...

All the items have definitely been good buys as I have worn them all in different situations and with different things - always a good sign. The top & velvet trousers are River Island items, I never normally shop in River Island but these two items have made me crave a little trip for a snoop about... The earrings have been featured before as well, H&M cannot go wrong in the earring department in my opinion. These lil' babies are getting a daytime outing tomorrow. It is my birthday after all, why shouldn't I wear sparklers during the day!

Happy Tuesday lovelies!

29 October 2012

This midi dress was a sale find in New Look that has been sitting in my wardrobe waiting to be worn. Today was the red dresses day. I want to introduce some more colours into my wardrobe as I always seem to be wearing black! This was a nice change, colour isn't that scary! I wore this with my leather jacket, fur stole & my tan Zara bag for a rather long day at uni!

I recently joined Chictopia, this is my page: Chictopia

if you are on there, please come & say hello!

Statement Earrings

Since getting my hair back to being pixie cropped I have some how found myself standing glaring at the selection of statement earrings H&M has in. H&M, for me, have the best affordable high street jewellery & they always hit the nail on the head trend wise. This said, these are 3 bootiful pairs I have picked up recently. All no more than a fiver & all have gained a place in my heart for one reason or another. I had to take a picture of the gold earrings on as on a surface you don't get the full effect of the 3D shape.

I am still a little self conscious about wearing earrings with my short hair because they are pretty much all you see but if short hair isn't a time to show off statement earrings, I really don't know when is!

Happy earring shopping!

Trying out

If you follow me on Twitter you will know that recently I have been having trouble with my skin. For whatever reason my face has decided a spot party would be simply the best idea ever, I disagree.  I saw another blogger talking about Avene samples from the company's website so I decided to take up on the chance of trying some higher end skin care seen as a week today I turn the grand old age of ... 23 *weeps in hands*

I got a sample of Gentle gel cleanser and the Light hydrating cream, I am really looking forward to trying them out after hearing so many good things about them. Here is hoping I will wake up tomorrow morning with flawless skin ... I can live in hope!
